Ever wondered what Underground maps used to look like, before Harry Beck famously created the modern 'circuit' map of the Underground? Well, wonder no more!

Here's a delightful and unusual vintage map of the London Underground by George Philip & Son Ltd in 1912, with London's roadways, parks and landmarks overlaid.

The best size for this map is 18x24 inches (45x60cm), but it still looks great at 12x16 inches (30x40cm) or larger sizes like 24x36 inches (60x90cm).

You might be a bit surprised at just how many underground railway stations had already been built by 1912! Most of the central London stations are already here: Charring Cross, Bond St, Bank, Covent Garden, Piccadilly Circus, Hyde Park Corner, Knightsbridge, etc.

Many of the lines already have the same name as they have today. Bakerloo Line, Piccadilly Line, Central Line, and the District Railway are all here.

Many of the lines already have the same name as they have today. Bakerloo Line, Piccadilly Line, Central Line, and the District Railway are all here. Many of the colours are the same, too: Central Line is red, Piccadilly is blue, Bakerloo is brown, and City & South London Railway (which will become the Northern Line) is black.

Back in 1923 the Northern Line consisted of the Hampstead and Highgate Line and Great Northern & City Railway connecting into the City & South London Railway. The three lines would be fully integrated at Euston and Kennington by 1926.

You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear perspex in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport. Please contact me if you would like to frame one of the larger prints for a custom order.

All of my maps are well packaged and sent in a rugged tube if unframed, or surrounded by foam if framed.

I try to send out all maps within 1 or 2 days of receiving your order, though some products (like face masks or mugs) can take longer to make.

If you select the free worldwide shipping option, you can usually expect to receive your map around 10 days after you order. It may be faster or slower, depending on the impact of coronavirus in your country.

If you select Express Delivery at checkout your order will be sent by courier (Fedex, DHL, UPS, Parcelforce) and will usually arrive in 2-3 days.

Customers in the US, Australia and Canada: Your map will be sent from a printer or framer in your country, which means you'll get your map sooner, you won't pay import duties, and we'll put less CO2 into the atmosphere. I have worked with some great printers and framers around the world for years - so don't worry, your map will still look amazing!
