Rare Old Geology Map of USA & Canada, 1886 by Charles Henry Hitchcock

Handmade to order
The map was compiled under the direction of Henry Gannett, the "father of American government mapmaking" and the "father of the quadrangle" - high-falutin' titles!
There's a huge amount of detail on this map, though it mostly revolves around rock formations and rivers. Most major cities are shown, but not many smaller towns.
Of course, the main feature of the map is that it shows you all of the various geological deposits and their ages, from quaternary to Mesozoic to volcanic - and everything in between.
This map is an unusual size - it's very wide - and would make a fantastic statement piece above a sofa, table, mantelpiece or staircase. It looks magnificent at every size and you'll always be able to read the writing on the map. I can print very large versions of this map up to 130 inches (330cm) wide. Get in touch if you're looking for very large maps. Please note that the 24x15 inch map has white edges that can be easily snipped off (or may help with framing). All other maps, and all framed maps, are just like the listing image.
The model in the listing images is holding the 36x24 inch (90x60cm) version of this map.
I have a couple of similar maps published AK Johnston, of the geology and palaeontology (fossils) of Scotland and the British Isles.
I also have another similar geological map of the USA, though it has a slightly different aesthetic.
This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from the US, or who has an interest in geology.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.

I use a unique process to restore my maps that is massively time consuming and labour intensive. Hunting down the original maps can take months. I use state of the art and eye-wateringly expensive technology to scan and restore the maps. As a result, I guarantee my maps are a cut above the rest - that's why I can offer a no-quibble refund.
Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
