Post Office Radio Telephone World Map, 1935 by Macdonald Gill - British Empire Wireless Network Wall Chart
Express delivery available at checkout
Many of the UK's first wireless and wired networks were operated by the General Post Office (GPO), including the radio telephone network shown on this map. In 1980 the GPO was split into the Post Office and British Telecom (BT).
Dotted around the map are interesting views of radio transmitter and receiver stations. And in the top left and right corners there are wonderful visualisations of the difference between Long Wave and Short Wave radio networks.
The map also shows the British Empire at its peak - well, it was just starting to crumble...
This map looks amazing at all sizes, from 12x16 inches (30x40cm) to 16x20 inches (40x50cm) and 18x24 (45x60cm). It looks truly beautiful at larger sizes like 24x36 inches (60x90cm) and beyond. I can print this map at sizes up to 200 inches wide - 500cm.
This world map would make a perfect gift for someone interested in the history of telephony or worldwide networks, or it would look great as wall art on your own walls! It's a beautiful piece of wall art that would make a good housewarming gift.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame, or if you'd like to frame one of the larger map sizes.
The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (50x40cm) version of this map.

I use state of the art and eye-wateringly expensive technology to scan and restore the maps. As a result, I guarantee my maps are a cut above the rest - that's why I can offer a no-quibble refund.
Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
