This is a giant map of Westminster, City of London and up to 10 miles around between 1741 and 1745 by John Rocque.
Back in the 18th century, most of what we'd now think of as central London were towns and villages.
Some of the clearly visible towns, villages and London suburbs in this map are: Wimbledon, Hampstead, Highgate, Vauxhall, Richmond, Teddington, Petersham, Twickenham, Hampton Court Palace, Surbiton, Putney, Wandsworth, Clapham, Brixton, Camberwell, Peckham, Kennington, New Cross, Deptford, Greenwich, Norwood, Dulwich, Woolwich, Rotherhithe, Southwark, Blackwall, Mile End, Bethnal Green, Stepney, Hoxton, Islington, Hackney, Dalston, Kingsland, Homerton, Clapton, Tottenham, Walthamstow, Stratford, Westham, Eastham, Acton, Hounslow... and many more!
24 by 36 inches is the smallest version of this map that I sell - any smaller and you won't be able to read all the place names.
This map is definitely best experienced LARGE. It looks amazing at 1.5 meters (60in, 5ft) wide and would make for a stunning, large map for an office, hotel, living room or other big space.
Please get in touch if you'd like a different size, or if you'd like the map customised to fit a specific space. We can make the map taller or wider, or zoom in on a specific part of the map.
These large maps would be perfect for hotels, offices, pubs, bars or other hospitality spaces - but if you have a large space at home, then they would look amazing there as well!
We have a number of other beautiful, large maps of London.
