Handmade to order
Engraved by John Rapkin and published by J. Tallis & Co in 1851, this is one of the finest and most detailed historic maps of Liverpool that you can find from the peak of industrialised Victorian Britain.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x18 inches (30x45cm), 16x20 inches (40x50cm), 18x24 inches (45x60cm) and 24x36 inches (60x90cm) but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 33x50 Inches (84x125cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 36x24 inch (90x60cm) version of this map.
I also have this same map in its handcoloured form. Depending on your room’s aesthetic/decor, you might prefer this version.
Like a lot of the UK's oldest cities, the street names and locations haven't changed much in the last 150 years - so it's nice to find your favourite street and imagine what it might've looked like all those years ago.
You can also see how Liverpool really was a harbour town - the entire waterfront was lined with working docks, many of which still exist today.
A lovely engraving at the top of the map by H. Winkles shows what the Liverpool waterfront looked like back in 1851.
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone from Liverpool or someone who is interested in the older cities of England.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.

I use state of the art and eye-wateringly expensive technology to scan and restore the maps. As a result, I guarantee my maps are a cut above the rest - that's why I can offer a no-quibble refund.
Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
