Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (2m+) and I can frame them. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
This rather unusual map of the United States was engraved by British engraver John Rapkin and published by J. Tallis & Co in 1851.
The USA was going through a lot of flux back in the 1850s, with most state borders no where near their present day locations.
This map would make a great birthday or Christmas gift for someone from Texas or perhaps from the western states - which was the giant Missouri Territory back in 1851. The Missouri Territory, a few years earlier, was known as the Louisiana Purchase.
Texas was much larger in 1851. Later some of its land would be carved off into New Mexico. To the north is the Western Territory, which would later become Oklahoma and part of Kansas.
Nebraska is hugely elongated, spanning all the way from Canada to the Western Territory. Nowadays there's two Dakotas and Kansas in the same space.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame, or if you'd like to frame one of the larger maps. We use super-clear perspex in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.
On the left and right sides of the map are busts of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. Lovely, detailed engravings of the Washington Monument and some scenes of a buffalo hunt are around the edges of the map.
All of my maps are well packaged and sent in a rugged tube if unframed, or surrounded by foam if framed.
I try to send out all maps within 1 or 2 days of receiving your order, though some products (like face masks or mugs) can take longer to make.
If you select the free worldwide shipping option, you can usually expect to receive your map around 10 days after you order. It may be faster or slower, depending on the impact of coronavirus in your country.
If you select Express Delivery at checkout your order will be sent by courier (Fedex, DHL, UPS, Parcelforce) and will usually arrive in 2-3 days.
Customers in the US, Australia and Canada: Your map will be sent from a printer or framer in your country, which means you'll get your map sooner, you won't pay import duties, and we'll put less CO2 into the atmosphere. I have worked with some great printers and framers around the world for years - so don't worry, your map will still look amazing!
My maps are extremely high quality reproductions of original maps.
I source original, extremely rare maps from libraries, auction houses and private collections around the world, restore them at my London workshop, and then use specialist giclée inks and printers to create beautiful maps that look even better than the original.
My maps are printed on thick matte (not glossy) paper that feels high quality. In technical terms the paper weight/thickness is 10mil/190gsm. It's perfect for framing.
Please contact me if you're looking for a print on canvas or cotton rag.
