Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (2m+) and I can frame them. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
This is the first and oldest "real" map of London, based on surveys of London between 1547 and 1559 - Elizabethan London.
The City of London is already built up, but Westminster is just a few streets - and the connecting roads between Westminster and the City are lined with fields and trees.
Southwark has started developing - but Lambeth is literally just a marsh with Lambeth Palace on the Thames.
Many of London's landmarks are already visible on this map, though most of them are spell quite differently! For example, there's Allgate - or Aldgate as it's known today. Moor Gate - Moorgate. The Spitel Fields - Spitalfields. Howlburne... Holborn! Charyncros... Charring Cross!
Some of the other streets and places you can see on this map include: Somerset House, Tower of London, London Bridge, Bishopsgate, Blackfriars, St Pauls (still with its tall spire), Smithfield, Barbican, Charterhouse, Clerkenwell and Tower Hill.
This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from London or who has London in their heart.
The "natural" size for this map is 24x36 inches (60x90cm), but it looks great at all sizes. I can print this one at large sizes all the way up to 70 inches across (180cm). Some of the place names may be quite small at 12x16 inches (30x40cm).
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame, or to frame one of the larger maps. We use super-clear perspex in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.
All of my maps are well packaged and sent in a rugged tube if unframed, or surrounded by foam if framed.
I try to send out all maps within 1 or 2 days of receiving your order, though some products (like face masks or mugs) can take longer to make.
If you select the free worldwide shipping option, you can usually expect to receive your map around 10 days after you order. It may be faster or slower, depending on the impact of coronavirus in your country.
If you select Express Delivery at checkout your order will be sent by courier (Fedex, DHL, UPS, Parcelforce) and will usually arrive in 2-3 days.
Customers in the US, Australia and Canada: Your map will be sent from a printer or framer in your country, which means you'll get your map sooner, you won't pay import duties, and we'll put less CO2 into the atmosphere. I have worked with some great printers and framers around the world for years - so don't worry, your map will still look amazing!
My maps are extremely high quality reproductions of original maps.
I source original, extremely rare maps from libraries, auction houses and private collections around the world, restore them at my London workshop, and then use specialist giclée inks and printers to create beautiful maps that look even better than the original.
My maps are printed on thick matte (not glossy) paper that feels high quality. In technical terms the paper weight/thickness is 10mil/190gsm. It's perfect for framing.
Please contact me if you're looking for a print on canvas or cotton rag.
