The Oldest Map of London, 1559 - City of London, Westminster, Southwark

Handmade to order
The City of London is already built up, but Westminster is just a few streets - and the connecting roads between Westminster and the City are lined with fields and trees.
Southwark has started developing - but Lambeth is literally just a marsh with Lambeth Palace on the Thames.
Many of London's landmarks are already visible on this map, though most of them are spell quite differently! For example, there's Allgate - or Aldgate as it's known today. Moor Gate - Moorgate. The Spitel Fields - Spitalfields. Howlburne... Holborn! Charyncros... Charring Cross!
Some of the other streets and places you can see on this map include: Somerset House, Tower of London, London Bridge, Bishopsgate, Blackfriars, St Pauls (still with its tall spire), Smithfield, Barbican, Charterhouse, Clerkenwell and Tower Hill.
This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from London or who has London in their heart.
The "natural" size for this map is 24x36 inches (60x90cm), but it looks great at all sizes. I can print this one at large sizes all the way up to 70 inches across (180cm). Some of the place names may be quite small at 12x16 inches (30x40cm).
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame, or to frame one of the larger maps. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.

I use a unique process to restore my maps that is massively time consuming and labour intensive. Hunting down the original maps can take months. I use state of the art and eye-wateringly expensive technology to scan and restore the maps. As a result, I guarantee my maps are a cut above the rest - that's why I can offer a no-quibble refund.
Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
