Originally hailed as "the most perfect map of London that has ever been issued" by the Royal Geographical Society when it was published in 1862, it's safe to say that Edward's Stanford's library map of London was a masterpiece of cartography.

The natural size for this map is 16x20 inches (40x50cm), but it looks great at sizes all the way up to 70 inches (178cm) wide. The labels are legible at 12x16 inches (30x40cm) but quite small. The 24x30 inch map has white edges that can easily be snipped off (or they may help you with framing!)

The map was originally published in 24 sheets. Altogether the map would've measured about 2 metres wide (78 inches). This here is sheet 1, which focuses on the north London boroughs of Camden, Brent and Barnet.

The main focus of the map is Hampstead in the bottom right corner, but also visible are Golders Green, Cricklewood, Childs Hill, West Hampstead, Finchley and Brent Reservoir.

This would make a wonderful gift for someone from this part of London or who has south London in their heart!

Please take a look at the listing images and be sure to click them to zoom in - there's a wonderful amount of detail in this map.

You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame, or larger framed map. We use super-clear perspex in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.

All of my maps are well packaged and sent in a rugged tube if unframed, or surrounded by foam if framed.

I try to send out all maps within 1 or 2 days of receiving your order, though some products (like face masks or mugs) can take longer to make.

If you select the free worldwide shipping option, you can usually expect to receive your map around 10 days after you order. It may be faster or slower, depending on the impact of coronavirus in your country.

If you select Express Delivery at checkout your order will be sent by courier (Fedex, DHL, UPS, Parcelforce) and will usually arrive in 2-3 days.

Customers in the US, Australia and Canada: Your map will be sent from a printer or framer in your country, which means you'll get your map sooner, you won't pay import duties, and we'll put less CO2 into the atmosphere. I have worked with some great printers and framers around the world for years - so don't worry, your map will still look amazing!

I source original, extremely rare maps from libraries, auction houses and private collections around the world, restore them at my London workshop, and then use specialist giclée inks and printers to create beautiful maps that look even better than the original.
