An exceptionally rare view of old Singapore, originally published in 1917 when the city (or town) was much less developed than it is today.
A handy key in the bottom right corner tells you the landmarks and locations that can be found on this map, including the various hotels, banks, government buildings, and even the schools (St Anthony's School, Chinese Girls' School, etc.)
In 1917 of course, Singapore was still a British Colony. There were lots of parks and places named after Raffles, the founder of the colony, back then. Not so much nowadays.
The map spans an area from the docks and marina, up to the Botanical Gardens in the top left corner.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16 inches (31x41cm), 18x24 inches (45.5x61cm), and 24x30 inches (61x76cm), but it looks even better when printed large. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 50 inches (125cm) tall. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
Please note the unframed 24x30 inch map has white edges around the map. These edges can help you with framing, or if you don’t need them they are very easy to snip off with scissors. All other maps, including the framed maps, look exactly like the listing images.
The model in the listing images is holding the 16x20 inch (40x50cm) version of this map.
Take a look at the detailed images and try to spot your house or street! Feel free to message me if you want to confirm if a certain street or place is on this map.
This would make a wonderful birthday, housewarming or Christmas gift for someone from Singapore or who perhaps has spent a long time travelling or working there.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes the map pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. I use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in my frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.
