Handmade to order
The map shows Seattle about 18 months after the Great Fire of 1889, which destroyed almost all of the waterfront wharfs and much of the central business district (highlighted red on this map).
This map has only been available on the market once, ever. It's incredibly rare.
There's an intense level of detail in this map. Please zoom into the images and lose yourself for a while - you might be surprised at what you can find! In a lovely touch, there is a line of mountains in the background - you might even be able to recognise some of the peaks.
Every building in Seattle is rendered accurately, and across the bottom of the map there is a key that allows you to locate around 130 buildings and landmarks. Many of these landmarks still exist today!
The map looks at the city from a point southwest of the city, looking northeast with Lake Union and Lake Washington in the background.
The foreground of the map shows the historic core of Seattle, which today is the waterfront, Downtown, central business district, Capitol Hill, Denny Triangle, Queen Anne, First Hill, Miller Park, Stevens, Arboretum, Madison Valley, Central District, and about as far south as Judkins Park.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x18 inches (30x45cm), 18x24 inches (45x60cm) and 24x36 inches (60x90cm), but it looks even better when printed large. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 145 inches (370cm) wide. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 36x24 inch (90x60cm) version of this map.
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas or housewarming gift for someone from Seattle or who has the Pacific North West in their heart.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.
