This is an exceedingly rare, full colour map of the world from 1651 by one of the founding fathers of cartography, John Speed. Amongst collectors, the original version of this map is one of the rarest and most valuable old world maps.
Back in 1651, our understanding of the world wasn't quite what it is today. California is an island! And there's no Antarctica or Australia - just the 'Southern Unknown Land'.
Take a closer look at North America and there are some very early settlements on there - including some that have been completely fabricated by the mapmaker! And why does North America swing off wildly to the west in the top corner?
The 'natural' size for this map is 18x24 inches (45x60cm), but I can print it and frame it at sizes up to 52x70 inches (130x180cm). It looks truly beautiful at that larger size, as you can imagine.
This world map would make a perfect gift for someone who loves to travel or explore, or it would look great as wall art on your own walls! It's a beautiful piece of wall art that would make a good housewarming gift.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.

I am very confident you will like your old map. I have been doing this since 1984 and I'm a 5-star Etsy seller with 1000s of sales and reviews.
This is the cheapest place to buy my maps online.
I use a unique process to restore my maps that is massively time consuming and labour intensive. Hunting down the original maps can take months. I use state of the art and eye-wateringly expensive technology to scan and restore the maps. As a result, I guarantee my maps are a cut above the rest - that's why I can offer a no-quibble refund.
Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
All of my maps are well packaged and sent in a rugged tube if unframed, or surrounded by foam if framed.
I try to send out all maps within 1 or 2 days of receiving your order, though some products (like face masks or mugs) can take longer to make.
If you select the free worldwide shipping option, you can usually expect to receive your map around 10 days after you order. It may be faster or slower, depending on the impact of coronavirus in your country.
If you select Express Delivery at checkout your order will be sent by courier (Fedex, DHL, UPS, Parcelforce) and will usually arrive in 2-3 days.
Customers in the US, Australia and Canada: Your map will be sent from a printer or framer in your country, which means you'll get your map sooner, you won't pay import duties, and we'll put less CO2 into the atmosphere. I have worked with some great printers and framers around the world for years - so don't worry, your map will still look amazing!
My maps are extremely high quality reproductions of original maps.
I source original, extremely rare maps from libraries, auction houses and private collections around the world, restore them at my London workshop, and then use specialist giclée inks and printers to create beautiful maps that look even better than the original.
My maps are printed on acid-free archival matte (not glossy) paper that feels very high quality and almost like card. In technical terms the paper weight/thickness is 10mil/190gsm. It's perfect for framing.
I print with Epson ultrachrome giclée UV fade resistant pigment inks - some of the best inks you can find.
Please contact me if you're looking for a print on canvas or cotton rag.

Fantastic quality map! Delivered quicker than I expected. Thank you.
Bought this as a gift for my husband and he loves it. It's bright, detailed and full of character.\n\nThere were some delivery issues due to the courier I'm assuming as a result of Brexit and it sat in Spain for a while but once it moved it arrived overnight! I contacted Sebastian a few times and he always replied within a few hours and was very helpful. I would recommend.
Sebastian went above and beyond what can possibly be expected to get this to me. The first order FedEx lost. Sebastian ordered the frame and the print separately and make sure I got it before Christmas. The frame didn’t arrive in brilliant shape but that’s not his fault cannot recommend enough communication was par excellence
My experience with Sebastian at OldmapsShop was excellent. I'm so glad to have found him. He went above and beyond the call, responding to my questions two times with useful information. \nHe's definitely my go-to guy for maps.
OLD WORLD ATLAS MAP FROM 1651\n\nI ordered the print version only of this map and I love it. It got delivered within 4 days from when I placed the order. I am very pleased with the quality of the paper and the resolution of the print (36" x 24" size). \n The map looks like in the pictures, I initially thought that the vivid colours would have been distracting but then I realised it is actually a great addition to my living room.\n It instantly added a lovely, cozy touch and totally improved the look of it!!
Exceptional service from Sebastian who bent over backwards to accommodate my requests. 1st class, highly recommended seller and product!
