Handmade to order
This is an exceedingly rare, full colour map of the world from 1651 by one of the founding fathers of cartography, John Speed. Amongst collectors, the original version of this map is one of the rarest and most valuable old world maps.
Back in 1651, our understanding of the world wasn't quite what it is today. California is an island! And there's no Antarctica or Australia - just the 'Southern Unknown Land'.
Take a closer look at North America and there are some very early settlements on there - including some that have been completely fabricated by the mapmaker! And why does North America swing off wildly to the west in the top corner?
This map looks great at all sizes from 12x16 inches (30x40cm), to 16x20 inches (40x50cm) and 18x24 inches (45x60cm). But it looks even better when printed large. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 70 inches (175cm) wide. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 24x18 inch (60x45cm) version of this map.
I can personalise this map for you and add a short message to the map itself, to make the map truly unique. See the listing images for an example of what this looks like.
This world map would make a perfect gift for someone who loves to travel or explore, or it would look great as wall art on your own walls! It's a beautiful piece of wall art that would make a good housewarming gift.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.
If you are not happy with your unique map for any reason, contact me for a no-quibble refund.
I am very confident you will like your old map. I have been doing this since 1984 and I'm a 5-star Etsy seller with 1000s of sales and reviews.
This is the cheapest place to buy my maps online.
I use a unique process to restore my maps that is massively time consuming and labour intensive. Hunting down the original maps can take months. I use state of the art and eye-wateringly expensive technology to scan and restore the maps. As a result, I guarantee my maps are a cut above the rest - that's why I can offer a no-quibble refund.
Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
