This lovely old map of Edinburgh from 1912, by John Bartholomew, shows the Scottish capital when many of its suburbs were still open fields and hills. The natural size of this map is 16x20 inches (40x50cm) but it looks beautiful at all sizes. I can create large prints of this map up to 50 inches wide (125cm).
The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (50x40cm) version of this map.
This map clearly shows all of central Edinburgh as it was 100 years ago, but also visible are the port towns of Leith, Granton and Portobello. Older suburbs like Murrayfield, Murchiston and Morningside are partly developed. But beyond that... it's mostly just fields!
A crisscross of railways feature strongly in this large map of Edinburgh, including the Caledonian Railway, North British Railway and Edinburgh Suburban line. Waverley Station is visible in the centre of the map - nowadays it's known as Edinburgh Waverley.
Many of the parks, green spaces and hills - all beautifully hand coloured in this old map of Edinburgh - are still around today, including King's Park (now Holyrood Park), the Meadows and Inverleith Park.
At larger sizes this map would look great on the living room wall of someone who has Edinburgh in their heart - or on the wall of a pub, bar, hotel or office.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.
