This masterful map of the history of Berlin was originally published in 1933. It was created by SDUK for the Society for Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK).
The map shows the city of Berlin as it was almost 200 years ago when Berlin was the capital of the province of Brandenburg.
Along with the very detailed plan of the city, which includes road names, landmarks and rivers, there are 12 illustrations of famous buildings in the city at the bottom of the map, including the Opera House, Franzosische Kirche (The French Church of Friedrichstadt), Konigs Palais (Königs Wusterhausen Palace) and Brandenburger Thor (Brandenburg Gate).
The SDUK was an early Victorian era attempt at disseminating educational materials to those who could not afford formal education.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16in (30.5x41cm), 16x20in (40.5x51cm), 18x24in (45.5x61cm), 24x36in (61x91.5cm), 32x40in (81.5x102cm) and 40x50in (102x127cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 50in (127cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 16x20in (40.5x51cm) version of this map.

If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing map of a satirical cartoon view of Berlin during World War 2 by Rex Whistler in 1939.
Some of the locations, landmarks or interesting features on this map include: Spree, Tiergarten, Brandenburger Tor, Pergamonmuseum, Alexanderplatz and the Berlin Wall.
Please contact me to check if something specific is shown on this map or not.
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father's Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone interested in the history of Berlin or from Berlin.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
