Handmade to order
This old and exceedingly rare map shows Italy, Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily as they were in the very early 1600s. Created by one of Britain's most famed mapmakers, John Speed, the map was originally published in the twin atlases "The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine" and "A Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World."
This map looks amazing at all sizes, from 12x16 inches (30x40cm) to 18x24 (45x60cm) and beyond. It looks truly beautiful at larger sizes like 24x36 inches (60x90cm). I can print this map at sizes up to 70 inches (180cm) wide. Get in touch if you're looking for very large or customised maps.
The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (50x40cm) version of this map.
A surprising number of towns, villages and cities are already visible in this map of Italy. Do zoom into the map and try to spot your hometown or favourite holidaying destination!
Around the edge of the map are some wonderful engravings showing six of Italy's most important cities (Verona, Naples, Venice, Rome, Genua and Florence) - and also drawings of the people who inhabit Italy, such as The Pope, the Duke of Venice, "The Milanians", etc.
This is one of the most beautiful and decorative maps of Italy ever made. It's one of my personal favourites. If you're going to get one old map of Italy, this is the one.
I also have the same map, but in the original monochrome print.
This would make a wonderful gift for someone from Italy or who has Italy in their heart.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black wood frame that really makes the map pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. I use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in my frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport. If you're looking for a framed map that isn't in stock, please get in touch and we can discuss your needs.

I use a unique process to restore my maps that is massively time consuming and labour intensive. Hunting down the original maps can take months. I use state of the art and eye-wateringly expensive technology to scan and restore the maps. As a result, I guarantee my maps are a cut above the rest - that's why I can offer a no-quibble refund.
Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
