The map was originally published in 24 sheets. Altogether the map would've measured about 2 metres wide (78 inches). This here is sheet 19, a beautiful map that shows one of my favourite towns in south London: Peckham Rye, East Dulwich, Dulwich, West Dulwich, Forest Hill AND Herne Hill! (I know, amazing) in the London boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark.
What is really apparent in this map is just how much of the south London suburbs used to be parks and fields. While each of the towns is starting to look built up, there are still acres of field, park, common and marsh between them. It's hard to imagine seeing fields out of your car or train window when going from Brixton to Dulwich...
On this map you can clearly see: A bit of Brixton in the top left, Herne Hill (and some very fancy houses that used to be there), the Dulwiches, Knight's Hill, Camberwell Cemetery, Peckham Rye Common, Coldharbour Lane, Brockwell Park (and Brockwell Hall), and all sorts of cool old things - like the Dulwich College, which is still exactly where it is today.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16 inches (31x41cm), 18x24 inches (45.5x61cm), and 24x30 inches (61x76cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 80 inches (200cm) wide. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (51x40.5cm) version of this map.
Please note the unframed 24x30 inch map has white edges around the map. These edges can help you with framing, or if you don’t need them they are very easy to snip off with scissors. All other maps, including the framed maps, look exactly like the listing images.
I also have this same map, but in its original monochrome form. Depending on your room’s aesthetic/decor, you might prefer this version.
Please take a look at the listing images for the street where you grew up, or the location of your office - there's a wonderful amount of detail in this map. You can always message me to ask if a certain street or landmark is visible on the map.
This would make a wonderful birthday, housewarming or Christmas gift for someone from south London or who has Wandsworth in their heart.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
