This wonderful old map of Edinburgh was originally published in 1821. It was created by James Kirkwood.
This beautiful street plan map of Edinburgh shows how the city looked over 200 years ago. You can already see the Union Canal, Drummond Place, The Observatory in Claton Hill and The North Loch on this map.
Being a central area of Edinburgh, New Town was built between 1767 and 1850 to attract wealthy noblemen back to Scotland. To this day, it has many of the original features and landmarks of the city, with the street layout being almost untouched from the one created in 1766.
This map looks great at all sizes: 18x12in (46x30.5cm), 24x15in (60x38cm), 36x24in (61x91.5cm), 45x28in (115x70cm), 50x31in (125x78cm), 60x37in (152x95cm) and 70x44in (178x111cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 130in (330cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 24x36in (61x91.5cm) version of this map.

If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing map of Edinburgh by John Bartholomew in 1912.

This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father's Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone interested in Edinburgh or someone who has visited or comes from Edinburgh.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
This map is also available as a float framed canvas, sometimes known as a shadow gap framed canvas or canvas floater. The map is printed on artist's cotton canvas and then stretched over a handmade box frame. We then "float" the canvas inside a wooden frame, which is available in a range of colours (black, dark brown, oak, antique gold and white). This is a wonderful way to present a map without glazing in front. See some examples of float framed canvas maps and explore the differences between my different finishes.
For something truly unique, this map is also available in "Unique 3D", our trademarked process that dramatically transforms the map so that it has a wonderful sense of depth. We combine the original map with detailed topography and elevation data, so that mountains and the terrain really "pop". For more info and examples of 3D maps, check my Unique 3D page.
