Sierra Nevada is shown here as a sweeping mountain panorama, with the ski area spread across a broad, snow-filled basin above Pradollano. Rather than a flat plan, the map opens out in an oblique view, so the whole landscape reads at once as both resort guide and mountain scene: the built-up village at Pradollano 2.100 m sits below, the busy slopes of Borreguiles 2.700 m gather at the centre, and the higher ridges rise behind towards the great skyline of Alcazaba, Mulhacén and Veleta.

That sense of height is one of the map’s strongest pleasures. The upper half is all exposed rock, wind-shaped snowfields and steep mountain faces, while the lower slopes become more structured and inhabited as lifts and pistes descend towards the resort. Valle de San Juan stretches across the left-hand terrain, Laguna de las Yeguas anchors the upper-right side of the ski network, and Loma de Dílar forms a distinct sector to the right. The layout makes the resort easy to read as a connected mountain world, from the concentrated hub of Borreguiles to the longer descents that draw the eye back down to Pradollano.

Visually, the map balances painterly relief with a dense layer of practical information. Snow is rendered in cool whites, greys and blue shadow, with darker rocky outcrops giving the high peaks real drama. Across that quieter background, the piste markings bring the image to life: black, red, blue and green routes thread across the slopes, lift lines climb the mountain in dark linear strokes, and magenta and orange details pick out special zones and boundaries. On the right, Snowpark Sulayr stands out immediately in orange, with a clearly marked Half Pipe, while the separate Mirlo Blanco Parque de actividades inset adds a smaller, playful scene of activity terrain at the lower edge.

There is also something particularly appealing about the map’s resort-guide character. The Spanish headings, the left-hand information panel, the lift legend and the restaurants-on-the-slopes panel all give it the feeling of a map made to be studied properly, not merely glanced at. For someone who knows Sierra Nevada, that richness invites recognition: the central meeting points, the shape of the slopes above the village, the contrast between the developed ski area and the wilder mountain backdrop. For someone planning a future visit, it offers the pleasure of discovering how the resort sits within a much larger and more dramatic range.

As wall art, it has a lively, informed presence. The broad format, strong blue sky and intricate piste network make it especially satisfying in a room where people will pause over it, tracing familiar sectors and noticing small details that only emerge on a second look.

The art of the ski map

What gives this map its distinctive character is the way it treats Sierra Nevada as a true mountain panorama. The skyline of Mulhacén, Veleta and Alcazaba is not reduced to background scenery; it defines the whole composition, lending the ski area a sense of scale that feels expansive and unmistakably high alpine.

At the same time, the cartography is crisp and purposeful. The coloured piste lines, black lift routes, bold sector labels and inset activity map create an information-rich surface, while the painted snowfields and rocky relief stop it from feeling purely diagrammatic. It rewards both quick recognition and closer reading.

A sense of place at home

This piece would sit beautifully in a chalet sitting room, a study or a contemporary living space where its cool whites, slate greys and clear mountain blues can breathe. Its combination of scenic drama and mapped detail gives it the warmth of a remembered holiday, while still feeling structured and graphic on the wall.

A thoughtful gift for skiers

This map will particularly appeal to skiers who return to Sierra Nevada, families with memories of time in Pradollano, or anyone with a special attachment to these Andalusian mountains. It is a thoughtful way to mark a trip, a season, or the anticipation of one still to come.

Perfect for:

  • A birthday gift for a skier who knows Sierra Nevada well
  • A keepsake of a holiday based in Pradollano
  • A housewarming present for a chalet or mountain apartment
  • An anniversary gift recalling shared ski trips
  • A Christmas present for someone planning to return to the resort

For anyone who recognises these slopes, this map holds both the shape of the mountain and the memory of moving through it.

Looking for a different resort? You can order a custom map of almost any ski area in the world, with the coverage, colours and layout tailored to your preferences.

This ski area map can also be personalised. We can discreetly mark your chalet, highlight a favourite piste, add a small illustration of you and your family skiing, or include a date and dedication to remember a special trip. Each addition is carefully composed to complement the original map, preserving its character and keeping the mountain detail clear.

Customisation, sizing and framing

For guidance on size, colour or framing, or to discuss an option that is not available online, please contact us. Our team will be happy to advise, and we usually respond within a few minutes.

A familiar resort can hold years of memories: the slope where someone first learned to ski, a much-loved mountain restaurant, or the chalet you return to every winter. Explore examples of our personalised maps for ideas on how to bring those memories into your design.

For a more nostalgic finish, you can choose our optional ageing treatment. Softer tones and a gently weathered appearance give the map the character of a vintage alpine print, particularly suited to a chalet, study or reading room. Browse examples of our ageing treatments to see the different effects.

The model in the listing images is holding the 20x36in (50x90cm) version of this map.

For a larger statement piece, printing and framing at sizes up to 3 metres (10ft) may be available, depending on the original map. For a bespoke size or framing option that is not shown online, please get in touch. We will help you choose a format that makes the most of the map's detail.

The map is available as a giclée print on acid-free archival matte paper, or professionally framed and ready to hang. Our standard frames are offered in six carefully selected finishes: black, dark brown, dark grey, antique gold, oak and white. A wider range of mouldings, mounts and finishes is available through our custom framing service.

Our frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic, chosen for its clarity and light weight. The finish keeps the focus on the map, from the sweep of the mountain range to the finer piste lines and place names.

This map is also available as a float framed canvas, sometimes known as a shadow gap framed canvas or canvas floater. The map is printed on artist's cotton canvas and then stretched over a handmade box frame. We then "float" the canvas inside a wooden frame, which is available in a range of colours (black, dark brown, oak, antique gold and white). This is a wonderful way to present a map without glazing in front. See some examples of float framed canvas maps and explore the differences between my different finishes.

For something truly unique, this map is also available in "Unique 3D", our trademarked process that dramatically transforms the map so that it has a wonderful sense of depth. We combine the original map with detailed topography and elevation data, so that mountains and the terrain really "pop". For more info and examples of 3D maps, check my Unique 3D page.

Many of our maps and art prints are chosen as thoughtful gifts for homes, offices, studies and meaningful places.

Personalised and customised pieces usually take an extra 1–2 working days, because we prepare your design and send it to you for approval before printing.

Very large framed orders can take a little longer, as they need extra care in production and delivery.

Our standard frame is a gallery-style black ash hardwood frame, with a simple, modern look. It is approximately 20mm (0.8in) wide. You can also view some lovely customer photos of framed maps and art.

We use super-clear acrylic glazing, also known as Perspex or Acrylite, instead of traditional glass. It is lighter, safer, and has lower reflectivity, giving the artwork a clearer, cleaner appearance.

Six standard frame colours are available at no extra cost: black, dark brown, dark grey, oak, white, and antique gold. Custom framing and mounting/matting is also available for customers looking for something more specific.

Most maps, art prints, and illustrations are also available as a framed canvas. We use matte cotton canvas, stretch it over a sustainably sourced wooden box frame, and then float the piece within a wooden outer frame. The finished result is beautifully presented, with no glazing between you and the artwork.

All frames are supplied ready to hang, with either string or brackets fitted to the back. Very large frames will include heavy-duty hanging plates and/or a mounting baton. If you have any questions, please get in touch.

We can also supply old maps and artwork on canvas, foam board, cotton rag, and other materials.

If you would prefer to frame your map or artwork yourself, please read our size guide before ordering.

We work with interior designers, hospitality businesses, property professionals, offices and corporate buyers on individual pieces and larger coordinated projects.

Discuss this piece with our Trade & Projects team

Every Unique Maps piece begins with an authentic cartographic source or an original design from our London studio.

For our historic maps, we source rare originals from libraries, archives, auction houses and private collections around the world. We carefully restore each map for print—repairing age-related damage, balancing colour and improving clarity while preserving its original detail, texture and character.

Once restored, the map is prepared for your chosen size and finish. Your piece is then printed and, where selected, framed close to its delivery destination.

Our map prints use acid-free 200gsm archival matte paper and fade-resistant pigment inks, creating a rich, non-glossy finish designed to last. Framed maps use crystal-clear optical acrylic and arrive ready to hang.

Canvas, cotton-rag and other specialist presentations are also available. Learn more about our materials and finishes.

Personalising your map

You can add a short title or dedication, mark one meaningful place, or request one considered visual detail. For personalised designs, we send a proof before printing and you can request changes before approval.
