Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (2m+) and I can frame them. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
This is perhaps the finest example of Johannes Baptista Vrients's world map, initially published in 1596 and the second world map to include extreme detailing around the edge - a style of world maps that would follow at least another 100 years.
To find one of Vrients' atlas maps in this good condition is extremely unusual; there are perhaps only a few copies of this one in exist. It was originally handcoloured almost 450 years ago and has been lovingly restored by The Unique Maps Co.
Back in 15796, our understanding of the world wasn't quite what it is today. Parts of North America look right... but Canada... well, it's a little bit distorted.
Australia and New Zealand hadn't been discovered, of course. And neither had Antarctica. There's just a giant Terra Australis - a huge landmass that was assumed to exist, to counterbalance all of the continents in the northern hemisphere.
This map looks amazing at all sizes, from 12x18 inches (30x45cm) to 18x24 (45x60cm) and beyond to 24x36 inches (60x90cm). It looks truly beautiful at larger sizes, as you can imagine. I can print this one at widths of up to 100 inches - 250cm - or more. Please get in touch if you're after a very large version of this map.
This world map would make a perfect gift for someone who loves to travel or explore, or it would look great as wall art on your own walls! It's a beautiful piece of wall art that would make a good housewarming gift.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame, or if you'd like to frame one of the larger map sizes.
We use super-clear perspex in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.
All of my maps are well packaged and sent in a rugged tube if unframed, or surrounded by foam if framed.
I try to send out all maps within 1 or 2 days of receiving your order, though some products (like face masks or mugs) can take longer to make.
If you select the free worldwide shipping option, you can usually expect to receive your map around 10 days after you order. It may be faster or slower, depending on the impact of coronavirus in your country.
If you select Express Delivery at checkout your order will be sent by courier (Fedex, DHL, UPS, Parcelforce) and will usually arrive in 2-3 days.
Customers in the US, Australia and Canada: Your map will be sent from a printer or framer in your country, which means you'll get your map sooner, you won't pay import duties, and we'll put less CO2 into the atmosphere. I have worked with some great printers and framers around the world for years - so don't worry, your map will still look amazing!
My maps are extremely high quality reproductions of original maps.
I source original, extremely rare maps from libraries, auction houses and private collections around the world, restore them at my London workshop, and then use specialist giclée inks and printers to create beautiful maps that look even better than the original.
My maps are printed on thick matte (not glossy) paper that feels high quality. In technical terms the paper weight/thickness is 10mil/190gsm. It's perfect for framing.
Please contact me if you're looking for a print on canvas or cotton rag.
