Old Map of Korea in 1764 by Bellin - North, South, Seoul, Pyongyang, Peninsula, Joseon Dynasty, Busan, Daegu

Handmade to order
At the time, Korea was ruled by the Joseon Dynasty - and they had strictly forbidden any Westerners from visiting their lands.
China, however, was allowed in - and they visited Seoul and obtained detailed maps of the country, which were then transferred across the 'Jesuit network' to France - where they were turned into a broadly accurate map of the peninsula.
This map looks great at all sizes from 12x12 inches (30x30cm) to 16x16in (40x40cm) and beyond to larger sizes. It looks its best at larger sizes. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 45 inches (115cm) wide. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing image is holding the 16x16 inch (40x40cm) version of this map.
Many of the towns, villages and cities in North and South Korea are already visible in this map, such as Seoul and Pyongyang, but the names are generally in much older forms - or forms that have been butchered a bit by Western scribes. Seoul, for example, is shown as King Ki Tao, and its province of Gyeonggi-do is rendered as King Ki (you can kind of hear the similarity if you say them out loud).
Take a look at the detailed images and try to spot your hometown!
This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from Korea or who has the Korean Peninsula in their heart.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.

I use a unique process to restore my maps that is massively time consuming and labour intensive. Hunting down the original maps can take months. I use state of the art and eye-wateringly expensive technology to scan and restore the maps. As a result, I guarantee my maps are a cut above the rest - that's why I can offer a no-quibble refund.
Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
