Handmade to order
The Railway Clearing House would go on to manage the interoperability of British railways until 1954 when most of its responsibilities were passed to the recently nationalised British Transport Commission.
This map shows you just how advanced London's railways already were by the end of the 19th century. A few of the earliest Underground lines can be seen here (the Metropolitan line, coloured light blue) but they're mostly lines that would later become the London Overground and various National Rail lines.
I also have a more detailed old map of London's first underground lines, if that's of interest.
Zoom in and see if your local train station is visible on the map - or message me if you want me to check for you.
A few landmarks and monuments are also shown on the map, including the big parks, Chelsea Hospital, Parliament and the Royal Albert Hall.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16 inches (30x40cm), 16x20 inches (40x50cm) and 18x24 inches (45x60cm), but it looks even better when printed large. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 120 inches (300cm) wide. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (50x40cm) version of this map.
This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from London or who is interested in the history of the Underground or railways in general.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.

Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
