This is one of the oldest, finest and most important maps of the complete British Isles - England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. It was originally published in 1611 by John Speed, one of the fathers of cartography and England's most notable cartographer of the Jacobean era.
There's an incredible level of detail on this map, with most towns, cities and even some villages in England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland labelled on this map.
This old map was hand coloured over 400 years ago and, as you can see, is still in amazing condition for a map of this age.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16 inches (31x41cm), 18x24 inches (45.5x61cm) and 24x36 inches (61x91.5cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 100 inches (260cm) wide. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 18x24 inches (45.5x61cm) version of this map.

Most of the villages and towns are labelled in Modern English, which is nice as you should be able to recognise most place names. Take a look and see if you can spot your home town!
There are detailed engravings of London and Edinburgh on the left and right sides of the map. Edinburgh is just a few streets back in the 1600s, but the City of London and Southwark are quite built up.
Ireland was rather oddly shaped back in 1611, but all of the major towns and cities are already visible - Cork, Dublin, Belfast, etc.
Scotland looks beautiful but a bit misshapen - and the Hebrides are perhaps a bit too big.
And of course, Wales and all of its towns are clearly visible. You might be wondering what Brecknock is... well, it's the archaic form of Brecon!
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
