This wonderful old map of the Parish of St Giles's was originally published in 1720. It was created by John Strype & John Stow.
This antique map depicts the St Giles Parish of London in the year 1720. The Parish was a significant area in London during the 17th and 18th centuries, known for its bustling markets and diverse population. The map highlights several historical landmarks, including St Giles Church, which was built in the 12th century and was the final resting place of many notable figures, including Oliver Cromwell's daughter.
During the time this map was created, the area was undergoing significant changes due to urbanization and industrialization. The Parish was a hub for trade and commerce, with several markets and shops lining the streets. However, it was also known for its poverty and high crime rates, which led to several social reform movements in the following years.
Today, the St Giles Parish is known for its rich history and cultural significance. The area has undergone significant redevelopment, with several modern amenities and attractions now present. However, many of the historical landmarks highlighted on this map still stand, serving as a reminder of the area's past and the people who once called it home.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16in (30.5x41cm), 16x20in (40.5x51cm), 18x24in (45.5x61cm), 24x30in (61x76cm), 32x40in (81.5x102cm), 40x50in (102x127cm), 48x60in (122x153cm) and 56x70in (142x178cm), but
it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 50in (127cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for
larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 16x20in (40.5x51cm) version of this map.
The fifth listing image shows an example of my map personalisation service.
Please note the unframed 24x30in (61x76cm) map has white edges around the map. These edges can help you with framing, or if you don’t need them they are very easy to snip off with scissors. All other maps, including the framed maps, look exactly like the listing images.
If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing map of the Parish of Saint James's of Westminster by John Strype & John Stow in 1720.
The locations on this map include: Great Russell Street, Lincoln's Inn Fields, High Holborn, Great Queen Street, Wild Street, St Giles High Street, Southampton Square and Drury Lane.

This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father's Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone interested in the Parish of St Giles's or someone interested in old maps of London.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
