This wonderful old map of the North Sea and the distribution of haddock (Gadus aeglefinus) was originally published in 1883. It was created by Ole Theodor Olsen.
This rather unique map from the Piscatorial Atlas by O.T Olsen shows detailed information about the fishing in the North Sea at the end of the 19th century.
Each map focuses on a different species of fish, showing where in the North Sea they can be found, where they can be caught in abundance, and their spawning locale.
In the bottom right corner there's detailed information about each species, such as its size, how many eggs it lays, fishing season, and even what bait to use. The map also shows some features of the North Sea, such as Dogger Bank and Great Fisher Bank.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16in (30.5x41cm), 16x20in (40.5x51cm), 18x24in (45.5x61cm), 24x36in (61x91.5cm), 32x40in (81.5x102cm), 40x50in (102x127cm), 48x60in (122x153cm) and 56x70in (142x178cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 70in (178cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 16x20in (40.5x51cm) version of this map.

If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing map of the North Sea and North Atlantic by Abraham Ortelius in 1575.
The locations on this map include: England, Scotland, Wales, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Norway, British Channel, Shetland Isles, Orkney, Great Britain, Great Fisher Bank and Dogger Bank.

This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father's Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone interested in the North Sea and the distribution of haddock (Gadus aeglefinus) or the history of haddock fishing.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
