This is a beautiful old geological map of Scotland. One of the first geology maps of Scotland, it is actually the first sketch of a Scottish geology map put together by Roderick I. Murchison and Archibald Geikie (director of the Geological Survey of Scotland) and published by AK Johnston in 1862.
It is incredibly rare to have a full colour, highly detailed map of Scotland from the 1800s. The detail is really quite astonishing. This is one of the most colourful and interesting antique maps of Scotland that you'll ever find.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16 inches (31x41cm), 18x24 inches (45.5x61cm), and 24x30 inches (61x76cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 40x50 inches (100x125cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 16x20 inch (40x50cm) version of this map.
Please note that at 12x16 inches (30x40cm) the writing is very small. The map is still very attractive, but you will struggle to read the smallest labels
Every part of Scotland is clearly visible in this map - from the Shetland Isles, to Orkney, to the Hebrides and Skye. Loch Ness is here, as is Loch Lomond. The interesting geological formations between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Even the rather interestingly coloured tip of the Mull of Kintyre...
Almost every town and city of Scotland is shown on this map, and some villages too. Inverness, Portree, Dundee. You can even zoom in and see the jutting prominence of the Quiraing on Skye.
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone from Scotland or has Scotland in their hearts.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.

Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
