The natural size for this map is 18x24 inches (45x60cm) but it looks even better when printed large. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 37x50 inches (100x125cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
Many of the towns, villages and cities in Lancashire are already visible in this map. In the top right corner is a detailed engraving of Lancaster, then (and still) the capital of this ancient county.
Most of Lancashire's most populous towns and cities have already popped into existence by the 1600s - with the notable exception of Blackpool, which was just a hamlet back then. It wouldn't become a major town until the 1800s and the invention of the railway.
The other odd thing to note is that both Manchester and Liverpool (then called Lerpoole) are both on this map as well. Back then they were part of the larger Lancashire Palatine area.
Some of the towns, villages and places clearly visible in this old map of the county of Lancashire include: Blackburn, Preston, Burnley, Lytham St Anne's, Leyland, Chorley, Bury, Rochdale, Oldham, Salford, Ormskirk and many more. But of course, many of them are spelt in their Early Modern English forms.
Take a look at the detailed images and try to spot your hometown! Feel free to message me if you want to confirm if a certain Lancashire town or village is on this map.
Around the edges of the map there portraits of various monarchs of the time - a few of the Henrys, Elizabeth I, Richard III, Edward V and Edward IIII.
This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from Lancashire, Lancaster, Manchester, Liverpool or who has Lancashire in their heart.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.
