Created by John Rapkin and published by J. Tallis & Co in 1851, this is one of the finest and most detailed historic maps of Liverpool that you can find.

Like a lot of the UK's oldest cities, the street names and locations haven't changed much in the last 150 years - so it's nice to find your favourite street and imagine what it might've looked like all those years ago.

You can also see how Liverpool really was a harbour town - the entire waterfront was lined with working docks, many of which still exist today.

A lovely engraving at the top of the map by H. Winkles shows what the Liverpool waterfront looked like back in 1851.
